The Peter Iredale has stood against time and tide since it was cast onto Clatsop Spit in October 1906, its rusted skeleton slowly surrendering to wind, waves, and sand. I’ve stood before it when the sea raged and the air howled with salt and storm. I’ve returned on calm days, as the sun traced golden paths across its weathered frame. No matter the weather, it never looks the same twice—each visit feels like meeting an old friend who has aged just a little more. Of all the places my camera has taken me, the shipwreck remains one of my favorites—a quiet reminder that beauty often endures through decay.
